Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The middle game of three between the Pelicans and Frederick Keys is set to begin at 7:05 p.m. at BB&T Coastal Field. Right-hander Ryan Kelly goes for Myrtle Beach against Frederick righty Jacob Rasner.

WE'RE GOIN' STREAKING: Shortstop Leury Garcia extended his hitting streak to eight games when he singled in the third inning. He added another single in his next at bat to make Friday night his eighth multiple-hit effort. Leury has batted .412 (14-34) during the eight-game run. The Dominican switch-hitter is one shy of equaling the Pelicans' season-long hitting streak of nine, set by Travis Adair from April 14-23. After starting the campaign 1-for-19 and 4-for-31, Garcia has raised his batting average to .286 as he's settled into the two spot in the order behind Ryan Strausborger.

GREAT DFNS: There haven't been any "E's" made by the Pelicans' defense on this homestand, as the team has gone a season-high five games without making an error. The errorless streak surpassed the club's previous season-long run of four games, which was run up from April 15-18 against Lynchburg and Winston-Salem.

SAY HELLO TO THE (OTHER) NEW GUY: After Tyler Tufts was promoted to Double-Frisco, that opened up a spot on the Myrtle Beach roster for right-handed reliever Zach Osborne. Zach was off to a brilliant start at low-A Hickory, earning the promotion on Thursday. The Houston native was 1-0 with a save in eight relief appearances for the Crawdads. He gave up just two runs in 14 and two-thirds innings, running up 18 strikeouts while only surrendering eight hits. He got his first action in last night's loss, coming in for starter Joe Wieland in the seventh inning while trailing 5-1. After walking the first batter he faced at the Advanced-A level, he shook it off and retired the next three to end the inning. He worked a dominant 1-2-3 eighth inning, as he struck out LJ Hoes, Jacob Julius and Tyler Kolodny, all swinging to finish his night. Zach was selected by the Rangers in the ninth round of last year's draft and spent the season with Spokane. He had a 3.92 ERA in ten relief appearances for the Indians, but his season ended on July 16 when he was hit in the face with a line drive during batting practice. The frightening injury resulted in surgery to put five plates and 28 screws in his face. He's recovered nicely and is off to a fine start as a Pelican.
