Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Two days after making his second rehab start in the Phillies organization, Pedro Martinez, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, will throw a bullpen session at FirstEnergy Park on Sunday.
The gates to the ballpark will open at 1 pm so fans can see Martinez throw and enjoy the previously scheduled Nine Innings for Nature program, a full-day festival featuring tips and displays from environmentally-friendly area companies.
The BlueClaws play host to Hickory at 5:05 and no one will be admitted to watch the bullpen session without a ticket to that day's game.
"This is going to be an awesome experience for our fans," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "It's not every day they get to see a future Hall- of-Famer in Lakewood."
Martinez signed with the Phillies on July 14th, and was immediately placed on the disabled list with a mild shoulder strain. He has a 214-99 career record over 17 seasons in the big leagues
His first game in the organization was a rain- shortened outing last Sunday with Single-A Clearwater when he threw 1.1 shutout innings in a rain-shortened game. Friday, he allowed five runs in five innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Martinez, 37, won the Cy Young Award in 1997 with Montreal, and then again with Boston in 1999 and 2000. He signed with the Mets before the 2005 season, where he spent four years.
Playoff four-packs and tickets to all remaining 2009 regular season home games are now on sale by calling 732-901-7000, in person at the BlueClaws Box Office, or online at BlueClaws.com.
