Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - A pair of unearned runs proved to be the Intimidators undoing on Saturday night at Classic Park, as Lake County handed Kannapolis a 5-3 defeat.

Drew Garcia made a pair of errors leading to two unearned runs off of Kannapolis pitching, one each in the first and the fifth. Garcia, a normally steady defender, made possibly his most costly mistake in the fifth, dropping a throw from Eduardo Escobar that would have ended the inning. Instead, it allowed the Captains to take a 5-1 lead.

Escobar did his best to get Kannapolis back in it late, slugging just his second home run of the season to score two, but it was too little too late. Relievers Kaimi Mead, Brian Grening and Steve Smith got the last seven hitters in order to close out the win.

Nevin Griffith (1-3) took the loss for Kannapolis, going just 4 1/3 innings. Griffith never looked comfortable and gave up four runs, three earned, while striking out only one.

Jeremie Tice was responsible for much of Lake County's offensive attack, as the third baseman went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Donnie Webb also had a big night, finishing 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kyle Bellamy and Leroy Hunt each pitched out of the ‘pen for Kannapolis. They combined to surrender just one unearned runs in 3 2/3 innings.

Chris Jones (5-2) got the win for Lake County with five strong innings of work. He gave up one run on four hits.
