Pedro León to Represent Astros in MLB Futures Game

CORPUS CHRISTI - Hooks shortstop and outfielder Pedro León was named to Major League Baseball's Futures Game American League roster during All-Star Weekend, MLB announced today.
The 23-year-old from Havana, Cuba is making his stateside debut in 2021 after enjoying success in the Cuban National Series from 2017-19.
In 41 games with the Hooks, León is batting .229 (33-for-144) with six doubles, six home runs, 22 runs scored and 23 RBIs with 10 steals. He has made 32 starts at shortstop and five in center field.
Rated the No. 7 prospect in the 2020 international signing class, León signed with the Houston Astros on Jan. 15, 2021.
León joins recent Astros representatives from the Hooks including J.B. Bukauskas in 2019, Forrest Whitley in 2018, Kyle Tucker in 2017 and Alex Bregman in 2016.
The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game featuring the game's top rising stars will be played as a seven-inning contest on Sunday, July 11 in Denver.
The Hooks return to Whataburger Field for two-week homestand beginning Tuesday, July 6 against the Midland RockHounds and concluding Sunday, July 18 versus the San Antonio Missions. Tickets are on sale at cchooks.com/tickets, at the Whataburger Field Box Office or by phone at 361-561-HOOK (4665).
