Good Game, Wrong Opponent; Frisco Wins, 3-1
Published on June 30, 2021 under Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release
The RockHounds played a very good game Tuesday night; they just did it against the wrong opponent.
The Frisco RoughRiders set a franchise record with their 11th straight win, a 3-1 comeback victory over the 'Hounds at Riders Field in the Metroplex.
Nick Allen (see "Kibbles & Bits," below) drove in the game's first run with a sacrifice fly, breaking a scoreless tie in the fifth.
RockHounds starter Bryce Conley, rebounding from a pair of rough outings, was outstanding. The right-hander went six innings, allowing just one run on five hits (three walks and five strikeouts) against the Double-A Central's top team.
Three of the hits Conley allowed came back-to-back-to back in the sixth as Frisco tied the game on singles by David Dahl, Josh Jung and Steele Walker.
The Riders broke the tie ... and added an insurance run ... on solo home runs from Anderson Tejada (in the seventh) and Jung (in the eighth) off 'Hounds reliever Zack Erwin.
Frisco has broken the Double-A Central race open, at least for now. The Riders' franchise-record 11-game win streak gives the club a 33-16 record (by far the league's best) and a 9ý-game lead over second place San Antonio as the season nears its halfway mark.
Kibbles & Bits
Nick Allen extended his hit streak to 14 games with an infield single (on a bang-bang play) in the eighth inning Tuesday night. Nick also drove in the RockHounds' only run of the game with a fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
In the 14-gamer, Nick is hitting .393 (24-61) and, after going 2-for-22 to open the season (at Frisco), he is now the second-leading hitter in the Double-A Central, with a .336 season average.
