
Early Grand Slam Helps Drillers Defeat Travelers

The Drillers jumped on the board in the third inning. A double, a walk and a single loaded the bases for Miguel Vargas hit into a fielder's choice ground out, plating Devin Mann. The next batter, Ryan Noda, walked to load the bases and set the stage for Carlos Rincon who came through with a grand slam home run to give Tulsa a 5-0 lead.
Arkansas gained one run back in the fifth. Following a walk to Connor Kopach, Julio Rodriguez hit a double to right just past the diving Donovan Casey, bringing the game to 5-1. For Rodriguez, who is the #2 prospect in the Seattle Mariners, it was his first Double-A hit.
Vargas added one more run for the Drillers in the fifth hitting on his fourth home run since joining the Drillers, increasing the lead to 6-1.
The Travelers managed to get to Pepiot in the sixth, scoring two runs. Following a walk and a single, Jordan Cowan drove in one on a single to center. The next batter Joe Rizzo hit a sacrifice fly to score Josh Morgan, bringing the game to 6-3.
Jeren Kendall added another for Tulsa in the bottom half of the sixth. Following a double, Kendall swiped third and scored on a sac fly from Jacob Amaya, giving Tulsa a 7-3 lead.
Jake Scheiner scored the fourth run for the Travs when Brian O'Keefe doubled to left bringing the game to 7-4.
Tulsa scored the final three runs of the game in the eighth, coming from two bases loaded walks and an RBI single from Casey.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
*Pepiot earned his second win of the season.
*Rincon's grand glam was his tenth home run of the season and was the third grand slam hit by the Drillers this season. The other two were hit by Romer Cuadrado and Jeren Kendall.
*With the home run, Rincon ties Noda for the team lead with 10 homers.
*All but two Drillers recorded a hit in the game.
*Following a loss by the Wichita Wind Surge, the Drillers have regained first place in the Double-A Central North.
*It was the Double-A debut for Rodriguez who is ranked as the #5 overall prospect in Minor League Baseball. He finished 2-5 with an RBI.
