Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Pawtucket Red Sox used a pair of four-run innings to beat the Rochester Red Wings 8-1 Saturday night at McCoy Stadium.
The Red Wings (49-61) managed just six singles in the loss. Willians Astudillo finished 2-for-4 in the loss.
Aaron Slegers (5-7) started for the Wings in his first rehab appearance after landing on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. He had not pitched in a game since he started for Minnesota on July 10 and he had not thrown for Rochester since June 30. The right-hander threw a 1-2-3 1st inning but would not get out of the 2nd. The PawSox (51-59) would get three straight hits with two outs, the last a two-run triple by Kyle Wren, to end Slegers' night. Jantzen Witte greeted Ryne Harper with a two-run homer to make it 4-0.
Slegers was charged with three runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings while throwing 44 pitches.
Rochester would get on the board in the 7th inning against William Cuevas (8-6) on a Taylor Motter RBI hit. It was the only run Cuevas would allow in 6.1 innings. The Red Wings best chance to make a dent in the deficit came in the 4th but Andy Wilkins popped out with the bases loaded to end the inning.
Kohl Stewart took over on the mound to begin the 3rd inning for the Red Wings held Pawtucket scoreless until the 8th inning. The PawSox used four singles and two walks to score four more runs, all charged to Stewart. Jake Reed came in to retire the final Pawtucket hitter of the night.
Stewart allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts over 5.2 innings.
The Red Wings will try to avoid the three-game sweep on Sunday at 1:35 p.m. when they send Fernando Romero to the hill.
