Clippers Walk-Off Bats to Take Game Three

August 4, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers triumphed over the Louisville Bats, 5-4 in ten innings, to take game three of the teams' four-game set at Huntington Park.

The Clippers overcame two deficits, two runs in the ninth and one run in the tenth, to secure the victory, their first of the series.

Bobby Bradley (4-for-5) was the hero in the bottom of the tenth as he knocked a bases-loaded, two-run double off the right field wall to win it.

For the third straight game, Louisville's starter was fantastic. Lucas Sims scattered a run and four hits across five innings of work. He didn't walk a batter and struck out six in his Louisville debut.

His lone hiccup came with two outs in the first inning, when Adam Rosales launched his team-leading 15th homerun of the year of the left field wall to give Columbus a 1-0 lead.

Sims outdueled Mitch Talbot, who was great for the Clippers, but solo homeruns in the fourth and fifth innings cost him.

The first came from Brian O'Grady, his second of the year, to lead off the fourth.

D.J. Peterson did the same in the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The opposite field shot was his team-leading 14th of the season.

Peterson added another in the top of the ninth with a single to provide the Bats some breathing room, up 3-1.

It wasn't enough, as Kevin Quackenbush came on in the bottom of the ninth and walked two batters for Greg Allen, who cleared the bases with a double into the left-center gap to tie the game.

C.J. McElroy came through for the Bats in the tenth, though, driving in the game's winning run with a double off Clippers' reliever Josh Martin.

The Clippers got it done in the ninth, though, loading the bases for Bradley, who drilled his fourth hit of the game off the wall in right for the win.

The teams will conclude their series tomorrow evening at 4:05 p.m. at Huntington Park.
