MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Myrtle Beach Pelicans' pitcher Jack Patterson and first basemen Tyler Durna have been named the Chicago Cubs Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Month for June, the organization announced Saturday.

Both Patterson and Durna spent the entire month of June in Low-A South Bend, but were promoted to Myrtle Beach in the first week of July.

Patterson, the Suffield, Connecticut native, made seven total appearances for the Cubs in June and was 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA. The left hander dominated opponents by striking out 22 in just 19 innings of work and opponents hit just .164 off of him in June.

The Cubs originally selected Patterson in the 32nd round of the 2018 MLB draft out of Bryant University and was 5-1 with a 2.34 ERA with South Bend this season before his promotion.

The southpaw made his living inducing ground balls for South Bend as he led all pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched with a 61.2% ground ball rate with the Cubs.

Used mainly out of the bullpen in South Bend, Patterson made a spot start for the Pelicans once he was promoted to Myrtle Beach. Patterson tossed four, shutout innings against the Lynchburg Hillcats and allowed just one hit while striking out four in his High-A debut.

Durna was also selected by the Cubs in the 2018 draft and he is off to a blazing hot start in his minor league career. The left-handed hitting first baseman was selected by the Cubs out of UC San Diego in the 15thround of last years draft.

The Chino Hills, California native, slashed .372/.465/.535 for the South Bend Cubs in the month of June to earn the player of the month award. Durna hit three homers and drove in 14 in the month and led the club with an OPS of 1.000 during June.

The 23-year-old also rode a nine-game hitting streak from June 10-21 that bolstered his average from .267 to .293.

During his three months in South Bend, Durna led the Cubs in batting average (.304), hits (80), doubles (21), RBIs (42), walks (31) and OPS (.824).

Durna was supurb on defense as well as he collected a .993 fielding percentage which was the second best among Midwest League first basemen.

Since being promoted on July 2, Durna is 3-for-10 with the Pelicans and has driven in a pair of runs as well.

Patterson and Durna are the first players to win a monthly award for the Pelicans since Cory Abbott was named the Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Month in August of 2018.

The 2019 season is the 21st season for the Pelicans franchise and fifth as the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
