Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Woodbridge, VA - The Blue Rocks took a one-run lead into the sixth inning, but watched the Potomac Nationals plate six unanswered scores and hand Wilmington a 6-1 loss on Saturday at Pfitzner Stadium. Even with the setback the Blue Crew still managed to take two of three from Potomac.

Wilmington scored its only run in the third inning. Cristian Perez roped a two-out double and then came home on Brewer Hicklen's single to center.

Spot starter Rito Lugo made the lead hold up into the sixth inning. The lefty posted five goose eggs before

allowing a lead-off single to Alldrem Corredor in the bottom of the sixth. He gave way to Walker Sheller, who was victimized by a two-run homer from Jackson Reetz one out later.

Potomac put the game away one inning later with four more runs against Sheller (1-1). Corredor doubled

in one run and then Reetz hits his second dinger in as many innings to cap the scoring.

The Rocks continue their six-game road trip on Sunday as they open a two-day, three-game series at Salem. Marcelo Martinez hits the hill for Wilmington and first pitch is slated for 2:05 p.m. Fans can catch all of the action with the Voice of the Blue Rocks, Cory Nidoh, on 89.7 WGLS-FM.

PEBBLES OF KNOWLEDGE:

The Blue Crew are in the midst of one of the strangest stretches they've encountered on a schedule in recent memory. Wilmington is playing back-to-back home-and-homes. The Rocks hosted Potomac for three and visited Potomac for a three-game series. Now they play three at Salem before welcoming the Red Sox to Frawley Stadium for three more. Adding an extra layer of oddity to the two-week span is that the Rocks and Sox will play a day-night doubleheader on July 8. Game one will begin at 11 a.m. and the nightcap is not slated until 6 p.m. Wilmington is 3-3 during this stretch of 12 games versus two teams.

Four continues to be the magic number for the Blue Rocks this season. Wilmington is 33-4 when scoring four-or-more times in a game, but just 20-29 when registering three or fewer tallies in a contest.
