
Patriots Top Blue Crabs 9-6

Waldorf, MD - The Somerset Patriots (33-20) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (21-33) 9-6 Thursday evening from Regency Furniture Stadium. The Patriots have won two of the first three games in this four game set.
In the bottom of the first inning second baseman Jake Opitz delivered a solo home run (7) to give the Blue Crabs an early 1-0 advantage.
Southern Maryland added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as left fielder Tony Delmonico slapped a RBI double increasing the lead to 2-0.
The Patriots tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning as pitcher Ian Marshall committed a throwing error that plated a pair of runs.
Somerset exploded for five runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab a 7-2 lead. The Patriots received RBI singles from center fielder Luis Montanez, catcher Adam Donachie and second baseman Jonny Tucker. Two other runs came across on a fielding error by left fielder Delmonico and a RBI sacrifice fly by shortstop Edwin Maysonet.
The Blue Crabs responded with four runs in the ensuing half inning to cut the deficit to 7-6. Delmonico slashed a RBI single while catcher Allan de San Miguel launched a three run home run (2).
Tucker gave Somerset a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning as he laced a two RBI triple to make the contest 9-6 which would be the final score.
Erik Arnesen (6-3) earned the win tossing six innings while allowing five earned runs on 10 hits. Marshall (2-5) suffered the loss hurling 5.1 innings while giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Jon Hunton notched his Atlantic League leading 16th save of the year pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Saturday, June 21st when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
