WALDORF, MD - The Somerset Patriots took advantage of four Southern Maryland Blue Crab errors as they won an offensive battle 9-6 in the third game of their series at Regency Furniture Stadium. The four defensive miscues are tied for the most committed in a game this season.

Jake Opitz homered for the second consecutive night as his solo shot in the bottom of the 1st stayed just inside the foul pole down the right field line for a 1-0 Blue Crabs lead. The home run was his 7th of the year, which now leads the team.

Southern Maryland doubled their lead with an unearned run in the 4th. Luke Murton reached on an error to start the frame and Tony Delmonico doubled him home to double the Blue Crabs advantage.

Defense was an issue though for the Blue Crabs in the 5th as Somerset was able to tie the game at 2-2. Ty Wright reached on an error to start the inning and Eddy Martinez-Esteve followed with a single. Ian Marshall then committed a throwing error down the left field line that brought in both runners to knot up the contest.

Somerset exploded for five runs in the 6th as they sent ten batters to the plate. The Blue Crabs committed two more errors in the inning and the big play was an RBI single by hit by Adam Donaghie that Delmonico misplayed to allow a second run to score. Luis Montanez and Jonny Tucker also added RBI singles in the inning as the Patriots jumped out to a 7-2 lead.

The Blue Crabs fought back and responded with four runs in the home half of the 6th. Delmonico's third hit of the night brought in a run and Allan de San Miguel delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to left field that cut the deficit to a run.

Tucker provided two insurance runs for the Patriots in the 8th inning as he hit a two-run triple to right-center field to extend the lead to 9-6. Tucker finished the game 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.

The Blue Crabs wrap up their series with the Somerset Patriots tomorrow evening at 7:05 PM. Righty Brian Baker (1-4, 3.24) will be on the mound for Southern Maryland while leftt-hander Matt Maloney (2-2, 3.25) will pitch for Somerset.
