Participants Released for Mustache May Promotion

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to release the preliminary list of participants in the month long "Mustache May" promotion. Front office staff members, players and coaches are teaming up to grow mustaches with the goal of raising money to help "Strike Out Hunger" on Delmarva.

The Shorebirds will have a "Best Mustache Contest" amongst the participants. Fans will have the chance to vote on who has the best 'stache. In order to vote, fans will be asked to donate $1 per vote to the "Strike Out Hunger" campaign. Voting will also begin online in the very near future.

After all the participants completely shaved their facial hair last night, the Shorebirds are ready to let the growing begin. Below is a preliminary list of all the participants in the first annual "Mustache May" to benefit the Strike Out Hunger campaign. Please note that participants are subject to change at any time during the month without notice.

The following front office staff members are participating:

. Chris Bitters - General Manager (5th year)

. Jimmy Sweet - Assistant General Manager (7th year)

. Shawn Schoolcraft - Director of Marketing and Community Relations (1st year)

. David Bledsoe - Director of Tickets (5th year)

. Aaron Becker - Director of Stadium Operations (3rd year)

. Bret Lasky - Director of Broadcasting and Graphic Design (3rd year)

. Mike Steinhice - Ticket Sales Executive/Box Office Manager (2nd year)

. Sam Ward - Ticket Sales Executive (1st year)

The following coaches are participating in the promotion:

The following players are participating in the promotion:

. Pitcher David Walters

. Outfielder Steve Bumbry

. Outfielder Brenden Webb

The rules of "Mustache May" are detailed below:

. Participants cannot shave the mustache area for the entire month of May

. Participants can trim the mustache around the lip area

. The mustache cannot connect down by the chin

. The "Fu-Manchu" is the only acceptable look for the promotion that extends to the chin

. There is no artificial coloring of the mustache

. Participants cannot fully shave the mustache until May 31st at midnight

The Shorebirds will post weekly picture updates of select staff members, players and coaches on our website, www.theshorebirds.com and through the Shorebirds Facebook and Twitter pages. In addition, mustache updates will be posted throughout the ballpark and on the video board each night.

Furthermore, the Shorebirds are planning on handing out fake mustaches at the front gate and encouraging fans to participate in growing mustaches to raise money for a great cause.

The Strike Out Hunger campaign, which will continue until the June 21 South Atlantic League (SAL) All-Star game, is focused on raising food donations and funds, and encouraging volunteer efforts to benefit the Eastern Shore Branch of the Maryland Food Bank, the Food Bank of Delaware and the Eastern Shore Branch of the Food Bank of Southeastern Virginia.
