Hickory Crawdads News Release

HICKORY, NC - RHP Justin Grimm struck out a season-high 11 batters to help guide the Hickory Crawdads to the 4-3 win against the Kannapolis Intimidators, before 1,221 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday evening. The first-place 'Dads continue to lead the South Atlantic League with 17 wins.

The Intimidators (14-9) got on the board first with a pair of runs in the top of the second against Grimm (W, 2-0). C Mike Blanke singled himself on to start the frame, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI double by 1B Dan Black. Black took third on a ground out, before charging home on a sacrifice fly to center by 2B Drew Lee to make it 2-0.

The Crawdads (17-7) responded right away, striking for three runs in the bottom of the second. A one-out walk by RF Josh Richmond sparked the rally, and was followed by four straight singles by 1B Andrew Clark, 3B Christian Villanueva, who scored Richmond, LF Jhonny Gomez and C Kellin Deglan, who knocked in a pair of runs with his base hit, putting the 'Dads ahead, 3-2.

Hickory added a fourth run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by SS Jurickson Profar, making it 4-2. Grimm, meanwhile, retired 15 straight batters from the second through the sixth, and struck out the final two batters that he faced to end the seventh.

RHP Jorge Marban (S, 1) made his second appearance of the season, tossing the final two frames. Kannapolis scored one run in the ninth after 2B Ross Wilson doubled and eventually came in on two wild pitches, but Marban settled back down and closed the 4-3 win for the Crawdads.
