Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Deuces were wild in game one of the four-game series between the Snappers and Kane County Cougars Thursday night. The two teams combined for four different, two-run innings and Beloit's Chris Parmelee delivered two home runs, two years after being drafted by the Twins in the 2006 First-Year Player draft.

Behind eight runs and nine hits, the Snappers claimed game one of the four-game set with the Cougars, 8-6. Michael McCardell picked up his second win of the season, going 5.2 innings and allowing four runs off six hits while striking out five.

The Snaps got going quickly with three runs in the top of the first inning. Two of those three runs came off the bat of Chris Parmelee, who blasted a two-run bomb to left field. Parmelee's homer put Beloit ahead 3-0.

After Kane County scored one in the bottom of the second, the Snappers bounced right back with their first of two, two-run innings in the top of the third.

Jair Fernandez cracked a two-run single to right, scoring Chris Cates and Garrett Olson. The two runs pushed Beloit's lead to 5-1.

Kane County scored two of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning off Beloit's Michael McCardell to pull to within two runs, 5-3.

Chris Parmelee then struck again in the fifth with his second homer of the game to right field, giving the Snappers a 6-3 lead after four and a half innings.

The Cougars answered right back with one run in the bottom of the fifth off Beloit's McCardell to make it a 6-4 game after five.

The teams would then each exchange two-run innings to make it a 8-6 game. Beloit's two runs came on a Parmelee RBI-single and Steve Singleton sac fly.

Spencer Steedley came on in the bottom of the ninth to close the door on the Cougars. Steedley worked out of a bases loaded jam to pick up his sixth save of the season and seal the deal for the Snaps.

On the same day of the 2008 First-Year Player draft, the former Twins' first rounders were huge day for the Snappers. Chris Parmelee (2006) went 3 for 4 with two homers and Ben Revere (2007) went 2 for 5 with two runs scored for Beloit who improved to 32-28 on the season.
