The Great Lakes Loons' offense scored early and often as they defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps Thursday night in front of 3,905 fans at Dow Diamond by a score 9-3.

With the game tied at three in the fifth, the Loons were able to double their run total thanks to a bases-loaded walk to Brian Mathews, an Erik Kanaby RBI single, and a West Michigan error to make it 6-3 in favor of the Loons.

Andrew Lambo led the way for the Loons going 4-for-5 with his eighth home run of the season and three runs batted in. Erik Kanaby also reached base five times thanks to three singles and a pair of walks.

Steven Johnson (7-2) started and pitched 5 1/3 innings on the mound for the Loons in picking up his seventh win of the season. Miguel Sanfler came on in relief to pitch 3 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the season.

Brandon Hamilton (0-4) picked up the loss in relief for the Whitecaps.

The Loons continue their five-game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps with a doubleheader Friday night. Game time is 6:05pm, with each game lasting seven innings.
