Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The long awaited Yovani Gallardo bobbleheads that were scheduled to be given away this past weekend have cleared customs and are ready to be picked up. Anyone who attended the Snappers game on Sunday, June 1st and received a voucher good for ONE Gallardo bobblehead can stop by the Pohlman Field front office to claim their giveaway.

While a member of the Snappers in 2004, Yovani went 0-1 with eight strikeouts in just two starts. Gallardo played for the Snappers while Beloit was still affiliated with the Milwaukee Brewers (1982-2004). Yovani was drafted by the Brewers in the second round of the 2004 First-Year Player draft.

After being called up from triple A to the majors last season, Gallardo went 9-5 with a 3.67 ERA in 17 starts for the Brewers. He had an impressive 101 strikeouts to just 37 walks in 110.1 innings.

Gallardo had a bit of a setback early this season in a game against the Chicago Cubs on May 2nd. Yovani was injured near the first base line while trying to avoid Chicago's Reed Johnson, who attempted to beat out a bunt with a head-first slide. Gallardo leaped over Johnson but came down awkwardly on his right knee, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.

The Brewers have not ruled out a return for Gallardo this season, but assistant general manager Gord Ash said that they will operate under the assumption that he is done for the year.

Fans can pick up their bobblehead during normal business hours (9:00 to 5:00) at the Pohlman Field administrative offices located at 2301 Skyline Drive in Beloit. You MUST have your voucher present to receive a bobblehead. Vouchers will be valid ONLY until September 15th, 2008.
