Twenty seven former major league baseball players are scheduled to appear at Apple Mountain golf course June 17 as a part of the Swing with the Legends golf tournament, presented by The Dow Chemical Company. The event is being held in conjunction with the 2008 Midwest League All-Star Game, powered by Dow Corning, to be held later that day.

Former Tigers greats Frank Tanana, Darrell Evans and Denny McLain will be amongst the golfers scheduled to participate in the event.

A left-handed pitcher, Tanana spent 21 years in the majors, primarily with the Tigers and Angels, winning 240 games. In his career, he amassed 34 shutouts, led the league in ERA in 1977 and was a three-time all-star.

Evans amassed 414 career home runs in a 21-year big league career. He played for the Tigers from 1985-1988, slugging 40 homers in 1985 and was a two-time all-star.

A hero in the Tigers' 1968 World Championship season, McLain won 31 games that season with a 1.96 ERA, winning the MVP and Cy Young Awards. He played 10 major league seasons, the first eight with Detroit.

The other 24 players scheduled to appear are: Milt Wilcox, Danny Darwin, Garey Ingram, Jim Gosger, Matt Mieske, Jon Warden, Ray Herbert, Phil Regan, Dennis Konoszewski, Richard Colpaert, Don Gross, Paul Noce, Jim Essian, Dick Lange, Billy Hoeft, Cal Eldred, Rick Kreuger, Glenn Gulliver, Tim McIntosh, Buddy Schultz, Doug Gallagher, Bill Zepp, Al Luplow and Mike Ignasiak.

The Dow Chemical Company is the title sponsor for the golf tournament. The event was created in conjunction with the Major League Baseball Player Alumni Association. Registration and breakfast begin the event at 7:30am on June 17 and a shotgun start will follow at 9am.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Michigan Baseball Foundation, a public charity and a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that owns and operates Dow Diamond, and the Major League Baseball Player Alumni Association charities.
