Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - David Parkinson threw five scoreless innings, stretching his streak to 25 straight innings without allowing an earned run, as the BlueClaws topped Greensboro 2-0 on Sunday at First National Bank Field.

Addison Russ got the last five outs for his league-leading 12th save as the BlueClaws picked up their Minor League Baseball-leading 12th shutout of the season.

The win keeps Lakewood (36-26) within two games of first place Kannapolis, winners earlier in the day at Rome. The BlueClaws took two of three in the series with Greensboro (29-31).

Lakewood took a first inning lead on an RBI double from All-Star Jake Scheiner, his 22nd RBI of the year.

The BlueClaws left seven on base over the first four innings, but extended their lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run from Jhailyn Ortiz. It was Ortiz's 20th professional home run and fourth of the season.

BlueClaws starter David Parkinson (5-1) got through five scoreless innings while striking out eight, one off of his season high. He walked the first batter of the sixth, but Zach Warren came on and stranded that runner and got through the seventh unscathed.

With his five shutout innings, Parkinson has now thrown 25 straight innings without allowing an earned run. He lowered his ERA to a league-best 1.21.

Ortiz had three hits for the BlueClaws while Scheiner and Kevin Markham had two apiece.

The BlueClaws return home on Monday night to start a seven-game homestand and a four-game series with Hagerstown. Tickets are available by calling 732-901-7000 option 2 or online at BlueClaws.com.
