GREENSBORO, N.C. - Lakewood pitchers shutout Greensboro in Sunday's series finale, 2-0, as the BlueClaws claimed a 2-games-to-1 series win over the Grasshoppers on Sunday afternoon at First National Bank Field. Greensboro (29-31) has now been shutout six times this season, including four games at home.
Greensboro starter Edward Cabrera (2-6) limited Lakewood to two runs (one earned) over 5 and 2/3 innings, scattering eight hits. He struck out five and walked two while suffering a loss. Travis Neubeck and Vincenzo Aiello combined for 3 and 1/3
BlueClaws starter David Parkinson (5-1) worked one batter into the sixth inning, striking out eight batters while allowing two walks. He earned the win, giving up no runs on three hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Lakewood wasted little time getting on the board with a 2-out rally in the first inning. After Cabrera struck out the first two batters of the game, Jhailyn Ortiz reached base on a throwing error by the Hoppers' pitcher, and he moved to second base on a passed ball. Jake Scheiner followed with an RBI-double to right field, scoring Ortiz for a 1-0 lead.
Ortiz doubled the BlueClaws lead when he led off the top of the fifth with a home run (4) to left field for a 2-0 advantage.
Greensboro begins a 6-games-in-4-days series against Hickory on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Monday's game is a Money-Off Monday presented by Circle K featuring $6 lawn tickets, $1 hot dogs, and more. The Grasshoppers and Crawdads will play doubleheaders on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. before wrapping up the series Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for all games are available online at gsohoppers.com.
