Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins took advantage of two power play goals and a perfect night in net from Tim Thomas do defeat the Lowell Lock Monsters 3-0 Sunday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Eric Healey, Shawn McEachern and Eric Nickulas had the P-Bruins three goals. Healey extended his scoring streak to five games with his goal this evening.
The P-Bruins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on their second power play opportunity of the game. McEachern held the puck along the far boards and fed Nickulas down low. Nickulas sent the puck far post to where Healey awaited. With Lowell goaltender Vitaly Kolesnik caught on the wrong side of the net Healey scored to put Providence on the board first.
The game remained 1-0 until later in the third period when the P-Bruins went back on the power play. This time it was McEachern blasting a puck past Kolesnik from the far point to give Providence a 2-0 advantage. Healey and Ben Guite had the assists. With time running out in regulation Nickulas added an empty net goal after taking a pass from Sean Curry as the P-Bruins went on to win 3-0.
Thomas stopped all 14 shots he faced for the Bruins giving him his franchise leading 11th shutout. Kolesnik brushed aside 37 of 39 shots. The P-Bruins power play went 2 for 6 on the evening, while the Lock Monsters were 0 for 5 on the man advantage.
