Albany Devils News Release
Providence, R.I. - Vitaly Kolesnik stopped 37 shots but it wasn't enough for the Lowell Lock Monsters (11-11-1-2) as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Providence Bruins (8-10-1-1) at the Dunkin Donuts Center on Sunday.
A pair of back-to-back penalties in the opening minutes ended up putting the Monsters behind early. The Bruins scored on the back-end power play of a two-man advantage to make it 1-0. Eric Healy got the marker on Kolesnik, who stopped 35 Bruins shots on Saturday for a shutout. Starting the game with just 16 skaters following weekend injuries to David Gove and Keith Aucoin and this morning's recall of Chad LaRose to the NHL, the Monsters roster shrunk further with the loss of D Chris Hajt early in the first frame. He would not return.
The Bruins controlled the play early in the period, taking the first nine shots of the frame. Kolesnik was called upon to hold down the fort as Lowell managed only one shot during the second stanza. Meanwhile the Kazak netminder turned aside 14 shots in keeping it 1-0.
With 8:30 remaining in the game the Bruins extended the lead. On the power play, Shawn McEachern let a blast rip from the right point that found the back of the net for his first goal of the season with Providence. The former 30-goal scorer with over 900 NHL games under his belt played in the first two minor league hockey games of his career this weekend, and finished with two points. Eric Nickulas added his fifth of the year into the empty net to seal the deal. Kolesnik finished as the second star with 37 saves for Lowell.
They return home next Wednesday to host the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 10th the Portland Pirates come to town for Patriots Night at Tsongas Arena.
