HOUSTON, TX -- Houston scored three power play goals in a 5-2 win at the Toyota Center on Sunday evening. The Barons finished the four-game road swing through Texas with a 1-2-0-1 record.
A strong effort in the opening period was not enough for the Barons as they trailed 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. The Aeros wasted little time scoring the game's opening goal just 61-seconds into the period. Rem Murray converted a nice pass play for the 1-0 lead with his third goal of the season. Dimitri Patzold started in goal for the Barons making three saves in the opening period. Josh Harding was in net for the Aeros with six saves in the stanza.
Houston extended their lead to two goals taking advantage of special teams play. Bryan Lundbohm gave the Aeros a 2-0 lead with a short-handed goal at the 14:26 mark on an assist from Joel Ward. The Aeros then scored a power play goal for a 3-0 lead with just 1:08 remaining in the second period. Roman Voloshenko scored the goal for Houston with help from the AHL's top assist man, Erik Westrum and Patrick O'Sullivan. Mike Iggulden trimmed the lead back to 1-goal with his second goal in as many games for the Barons less than a minute later. Garrett Stafford assisted on the Barons goal, who trailed 3-1 after forty minutes.
Houston put the game away with two quick third period goals skating to a 5-2 win. Westrum extended the Aeros lead to 4-1 with his 12th goal of the year coming on a power play. Kirby Law quickly followed with another power play goal less than two minutes later for the 5-1 lead. In a fight filled final frame the Baron finally scored, but it was too little-too late. Josh Gorges tallied his second goal of the season from Brad Staubitz and Lukas Kaspar at the 14:16 mark of the period. The two team will meet for the third time this season a week from today at Cleveland.
The Barons return to home ice for their next game on Tuesday, December 6th when they host the Toronto Marlies at 7pm. Every Tuesday night home game with the Barons this season is a "Two-For-One Ticket Special", which includes free popcorn and free soda. The special ticket offer is available exclusively at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
