Albany Devils News Release
Lowell, Mass. - Lowell RW Chad LaRose, who scored the only two goals of Saturday night's 2-0 victory over the Providence Bruins, was recalled this morning by the Carolina Hurricanes. He is the seventh player to be recalled to the NHL this season from the Lock Monsters.
LaRose, 23, is in his third professional season and currently leads the Monsters in goals with 14 and is second with 25 points. His second period tally on Saturday night proved to be the game winner and prompted the fans launching of stuffed animals on Teddy Bear Toss Night. He added his second shorthanded goal of the night into an open net to seal the win, and has five goals in his last three games. The Fraser, Michigan, native had a season-high three goals and five points last Saturday in a 7-6 win at Portland.
Undrafted, despite putting up 201 points in 152 major junior games in the Ontario Hockey League, Carolina signed LaRose in August of 2003. That came after he racked up 61 goals and 117 points in 67 games during his final year with the Plymouth Whalers. He split his rookie season between Lowell and the Florida Everblades in the ECHL and made his pro debut in the American Hockey League with the Lock Monsters. LaRose enjoyed a breakout season in 2004-05, ranking fifth on the Lock Monsters in goals (20) and points (42). He led the team with 10 power play goals and is tied for the team lead this year with four. His two shorties last night gives him three on the season, which is tied for the league lead, and his five career shorthanded goals ranks third in Lock Monsters history.
LaRose is currently third on the team with six multiple point games and leads the Monsters with four multi-goal games. He has added 4g-5a-9pts on the power play this season (second on the team to Keith Aucoin), and his three shorthanded points leads the way as well. Additionally, LaRose is 3-for-6 in the shootout on the year. The Hurricanes are currently on a West Coast swing, and play their next game in Anaheim on Tuesday night (10:30 p.m. Eastern Time).
The Monsters complete their home and home with Providence on the road today at 4:05 p.m. They return home next Wednesday to host the Springfield Falcons at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, December 10th the Portland Pirates come to town for Patriots Night at Tsongas Arena.
