HERSHEY defeats Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the first time in four tries this season, winning in a shootout 3-2 at GIANT Center Sunday.
Tomas Surovy opened the scoring at the 4:56 mark of the first period with a four on three power play goal to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead, but HERSHEY would rally for two goals before intermission to take the lead. Tomas Fleischmann scored his sixth goal of the year at 11:19 of the first to tie the game, followed by Graham Mink's 15th of the season at 18:20. Mink's goal was short-handed, and it gave the BEARS the lead after twenty minutes.
After a scoreless second period, Jonathan Filewich of Wilkes-Barre scored at 1:35 of the third period to tie the game and force overtime. In the shootout, Boyd Gordon scored in the fifth round to clinch the win for the BEARS. Frederic Cassivi won his tenth game of the season, making 20 saves. Dave Steckel was named the game's number one star, while Graham Mink earned number three star honors.
The BEARS travel to Bridgeport Wednesday morning to play the Sound Tigers in an 11:00 a.m. faceoff at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
