November 4, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that they have released forward Jimmy Fraser from his Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 21 players on their roster, including 12 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
Fraser, 22, went scoreless in three games for Providence after being promoted from the ECHL's Reading Royals on October 30. He made his P-Bruins debut that night on the road against the Manchester Monarchs. After participating in Providence's training camp, the center began this season in Reading, where he appeared in six games and tallied his first and only pro point with an assist on October 17 against the Elmira Jackals.
Prior to turning pro, Fraser was a four-year member of the Harvard University Crimson, where he registered 54 points (15g, 39a) and 162 penalty minutes in 128 contests. His best offensive seasons came as a freshman and sophomore, recording 16 points in each year. As a freshman, he led the Crimson in rookie scoring and tallied a career-best 13 assists in a personal-high 35 games. As a sophomore, he scored a career-high six goals. In his senior season, Fraser was selected as Harvard's team captain. In each of his final three seasons, he was a member of the ECAC All-Academic Team.
Outside of school, Fraser was a member of the U.S.A. Hockey World Juniors Bronze Medal winning team in 2007, and he was selected as an alternate captain of the U.S. National World Junior Team that same year. The undrafted forward is a native of Port Huron, Michigan.
The P-Bruins return to action this weekend with three games, including home games with the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday at 7:05 p.m. and the Hershey Bears on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Prior to both games, local Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Rhode Island Food Bank to support the Scouting for Food national campaign. Fans are encouraged to drop off their non-perishable food items in the Dunkin' Donuts Center lobby. Friday's game is a Rhode Island Reds T-Shirt Night, free to the first 2,000 fans, and Sunday's contest is a Family Game, where fans can buy one ticket, one hot dog and one soda for one low price. Between home contests, the P-Bruins are on the road Saturday against the Lowell Devils at 7 p.m. To purchase 2009-10 season tickets, Flex Tix or individual game tickets, please call the Providence Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to www.providencebruins.com.
