Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY - Senators goaltender Mike Brodeur made 25 saves to earn his first shutout of the season to lead Binghamton past the Albany River Rats, 2-0 Wednesday night at the Times Union Center.
Binghamton center Cody Bass scored the game's first goal at 5:37 of the second period and Martin St. Pierre added an empty-netter with 55.8 seconds left in the third for the only two goals of the night.
Bass raced down the right wing into the River Rats zone and fired a sharp-angle blast off of Albany goalie Justin Peters' glove and into the short side of the net to make it 1-0 Senators; Josh Hennessy recorded the lone assist on the eventual game-winner.
Albany had scoring opportunities throughout the contest, beginning in the first period when the home team failed to convert on three power play opportunities. Brodeur denied a Steven Goertzen breakaway later in the frame to keep the contest scoreless through 20 minutes of action.
The River Rats mounted pressure late in the contest and saw their best opportunity come from Drayson Bowman on a rebound, but his shot rang off the post and Brodeur stopped everything else that came his way.
Senators goalie Mike Brodeur stopped 25-of-25 shots faced to earn the win as the Senators improved to 4-5-2-0 on the season. Albany goaltender Justin Peters allowed one goal on 21 shots and took the loss as the River Rats fell to 5-6-0-1 on the year. Albany out-shot the B-Sens 25-22 in the game and went 0-for-4 on the power play; Binghamton was 0-for-1 on the man-advantage.
Albany returns to the Times Union Center on Friday, November 6th to faceoff with the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m. Adirondack heads to Albany the following night for game three of the Time Warner Cable Cup at 7:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 season and flex ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
