Columbus Recalls Center Derek MacKenzie

Syracuse, NY (November 4, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have added center Derek MacKenzie on emergency recall.

MacKenzie, 28, has appeared in all 11 games for the Crunch this season and is tied for the team lead in scoring with three goals and six assists. Two of MacKenzie's tallies have come while down a man, tying him for the league lead and putting him in second place on the Crunch's all-time list in shorthanded goals with eight.

In 514 career AHL games with the Crunch and Chicago, MacKenzie has recorded 133 goals, 161 assists and 547 penalty mintues. He has also appeared in 46 combined NHL games with Columbus and Atlanta, notching two goals, two assists and 30 penalty minutes.

A native of Sudbury, Ontario, MacKenzie was originally selected by Atlanta in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Columbus as a free agent on July 11, 2007 and again on July 14, 2008.

The Crunch travel to Rochester to take on the Americans on Friday, November 6 and return home to battle Norfolk this Saturday, November 7 at the War Memorial at Oncenter at 7:30 p.m. Season and single-game tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the Crunch office at (315) 473- 4444 or by stopping by the Crunch office in the War Memorial at Oncenter, located at 800 South State Street in downtown Syracuse.
