
P-Bruins Fall to Monarchs 6-3

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins fell to the Manchester Monarchs 6-3 Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The P-Bruins got goals from David Lundbohm, Ben Guite and Pascal Pelletier. The P-Bruins are now 28-20-1-2 on the season, 59 points and in fourth place in the Atlantic Division.
The Monarchs took a 1-0 lead at the 4:09 mark of the opening period. Jeff Tambellini was look for a pass to Greg Hogeboom. The pass was blocked by Michael Schutte, but Connor James trailed the play and scored off the blocked pass. Manchester took a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal. After the P-Bruins iced the puck the face off came far circle from Providence goaltender Brian Eklund. The Monarchs won the face off and Matt Ryan blasted a shot from the far point off the pads of Eklund and into the net. The Monarchs went up 3-0 when Konstantin Pushkarev fed Petr Kanko to the near side of the net. Kanko through the puck off Eklund and it bounced into the net. The P-Bruins cut the Monarchs lead to 3-1 heading into the first intermission when Schutte held the zone at the left point. He worked the puck behind the net to Tyler Redenbach who sent a perfect pass to Lundbohm waiting in the slot. Lundbohm slid the puck past Monarchs netminder Barry Brust to put the P-Bruins on the scoreboard.
The P-Bruins pulled within a goal at the 3:58 mark of the second period. Ben Guite scored off passes from Jason MacDonald and Mark Stuart to cut the Monarchs lead to 3-2. The Monrachs scored two goals of their own in the period to take a 5-2 lead into the second intermission. Ryan tallied his second goal of the evening at the 8:38 mark of the period, while Brendan Bernakevitch scored at the 9:47 mark with assists going to Brad Smyth and Noah Clarke.
In the third period the P-Bruins got back within two goals. While on the power play Doug Nolan tried clearing the zone for the Monarchs, but the puck took a funny hop off the boards and landed right on the stick of Pelletier. He got the puck past Brust to make the score 5-3. Manchester added an insurance goal at the 15:33 mark of the third period off the stick of Jeff Tambellini as the Monarchs went on to win by a 6-3 final.
Eklund stopped 8 of 12 shots and Jordan Sigalet 11 of 13 shots for the P-Bruins, while Brust stopped 32 of 35 for the Monarchs. The P-Bruins were 1 for 5 on the power play, while Manchester was 0 for 3 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, February 17 to face the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Providence Bruins key chains courtesy of your New England Dodge dealers.
