Norfolk Admirals News Release

Eric Meloche, Mark Cullen and Pavel Vorobiev had goals for Norfolk as the Admirals defeated the Springfield Falcons 3-1 on Saturday night at Scope.

After a scoreless opening period, both teams found the back of the net once in the second period. In the seventh minute of the stanza, Colin Fraser threaded a pass from the corner to the right of Falcons netminder Jonathan Boutin toward the slot. Eric Meloche tipped the pass over the goalie's left pad at 6:34. Springfield knotted the score at one goal apiece nine minutes later off a wraparound goal by Travis Brigley at 15:27. The teams headed into the third period tied 1-1.

Norfolk took the lead under two minutes into the final frame. Mark Cullen entered the offensive zone and sent a sharp wrister from the left face-off dot that beat Boutin on his glove-side at 1:57. The tally would prove to be the game winner, as Corey Crawford stopped 11 third period shots and Pavel Vorobiev tacked on an empty-netter with 22.3 seconds left to cement a 3-1 Admirals' victory.

Corey Crawford stopped 20 of 21 shots and picked up the ‘W.' Jonathan Boutin made 24 saves on 26 shots and got the loss.

Both teams were 0-3 with the man advantage.
