Bulldogs Defeated by Pirates

Hamilton, ON - The Bulldogs scored two shorthanded third period goals, but it was not enough as Hamilton was defeated 4-3 by the Portland Pirates on Saturday evening in front of 6,016 fans at Copps Coliseum.

Portland opened the scoring at 16:56 of the first period while on a two-man advantage. Ryan Shannon made a pass to Kent Huskins who was positioned at the point and fired a shot past Bulldogs netminder Yann Danis. The Pirates extended their lead to two at 17:33, when Bruno St. Jacques put the puck past Danis following a scramble in front. Portland extended their lead to 3-0 at 19:11, when Curtis Glencross scored his 14th goal of the season.

The Bulldogs responded at 19:27 when Francis Lemieux scored his 12th goal of the season. The goal was his first since December 30th.

Olivier Michaud replaced Danis at the beginning of the second period.

Shannon made it 4-1 at 6:20 when he one-timed Igor Pohanka's centering pass behind Michaud.

Hamilton cut Portland's lead to 4-2 at 1:22 of the third period when Jean-Philippe Cote banged in a rebound past Pirates goaltender Dieter Kochan with the Bulldogs on the penalty kill.

J.J. Hunter made the score 4-3 on a shorthanded two-on-one with Danny Syvret at 16:49. It was Hunter's his first goal of the season.

Danis stopped seven shots, while Michaud blocked 15 and suffered the loss. Kochan made 28 saves.

Hamilton was 0 for 5 on the power play while Portland went 2 for 10.

Hamilton's next home game will take place on Sunday, February 12th when they host the San Antonio Rampage.
