Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the Springfield Falcons 3-2 in a shootout Friday evening in front of 10,170 fans at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Kris Versteeg and Petr Kalus. Providence is now on a five game point streak and has 46 points with a 21-18-1-3 record, only three points out of second place in the Atlantic Division.
The Falcons took the 1-0 lead at the 11:20 mark of the opening period. Doug O'Brien took a shot from the right point and it was deflected in front of the net by a Providence Bruins player on its way past P-Bruins goaltender Jordan Sigalet and into the net. David Spina and Andy Rogers had the assists. The P-Bruins came back to take the lead into the first intermission. At the 15:54 mark, Versteeg picked up a loose puck in front of the net and put it past Springfield net minder Karri Ramo to tie the game at one. Ben Walter and David Krejci recorded the assists. Less than two minutes later at the 17:33 mark, Krejci sent a pass backdoor to a wide open Kalus who pushed the puck into an empty net. Versteeg had the second assist as the P-Bruins went into the first intermission with the 2-1 lead.
In the second period, the Falcons scored the lone goal at the 3:37 mark. Former P-Bruin Eric Healey netted the goal with Norm Milley and Andy Delmore tallying the assists. The game remained tied through the end of regulation and overtime.
In the shootout, the P-Bruins tallied first as their first shooter Krejci beat Ramo on the right side. In the second round Springfield answered back as Daniel Corso waited for Sigalet to go down and floated the puck over his shoulder. After the P-Bruins failed to score in round three, the Falcons took the shootout lead as Healey scored in similar fashion to Corso. No other P-Bruins were able to convert in the shootout as Springfield went on to the 3-2 shootout victory.
Sigalet stopped 17 of 19 shots he face for the P-Bruins, while Ramo made 29 saves for the Falcons. Providence was 0 for 4 on the power play, while Springfield went 0 for 5 on the man-advantage.
The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday, January 21 at 4:05 p.m. versus Portland Pirates. Providence is in Portland Saturday, January 20 at 7:05 p.m. For ticket information call the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log onto www.providencebruins.com.
