St. Pierre, Brouwer Have Four-Point Nights as Admirals Defeat Penguins 5-2

NORFOLK, VA - Martin St. Pierre and Troy Brouwer each had two goals and two assists as the Admirals (30-9-4-1) became the first team in the AHL to 30 wins in a 5-2 victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (27-8-2-3). The Friday night game was played in front of an AHL Admirals' record crowd of 7,209 at Norfolk Scope.

Brouwer put the Admirals on top with a penalty shot goal 6:59 into the first period. After he was hooked from behind during a breakaway, Brouwer skated in without a deke and sent a wrister five hole on Jeff Delauriers.

Just over a minute later, St. Pierre doubled the Norfolk lead on the power play. Brouwer sent a cross-ice feed to St. Pierre at the right faceoff circle. St. Pierre sent a shot over Delauriers' left leg at 8:13.

The Penguins got on the board with a man advantage tally of their own four minutes later. Jean-Francois Jacques chipped a pass from between the hashmarks past Norfolk netminder Patrick Lalime at 12:07.

Brouwer netted his second tally of the night just two minutes later with another Admirals power play goal. He sent a wrist shot from the right edge of the left circle past Deslauriers at 14:36. Andrew Penner replaced Deslauriers in net after the goal.

Kyle Brodziak cut the Admirals' lead in half with just 14 seconds remaining in the opening frame. He skated in on the left wing with a Norfolk defender hot on his heels, cut across the crease and slid a shot past the outstretched glove hand of Lalime at 19:46.

The Admirals re-established a two-goal lead midway through the second stanza. St. Pierre spotted Danny Richmond, who had just exited the penalty box, with a pass in the neutral zone. Richmond sent a wrister from the right circle over Penner's blocker at 10:17.

St. Pierre cemented the victory with a two-on-one goal in the game's final three minutes. Brandon Bochenski fed a pass to St. Pierre, who buried it at 17:04.

Lalime (36 shots, 34 saves) earned the victory. Deslauriers (10 shots, 7 saves) picked up the loss. Penner (19 shots, 17 saves) did not receive a decision.

The Admirals were 2-5 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre was 1-7.

The Admirals and Penguins will renew acquaintances tomorrow evening in Pennsylvania at 7:05. The Admirals then head to Philadelphia on Sunday for a 5:05 p.m. engagement with the Phantoms before returning to Scope on Friday for a showdown against the Hershey Bears at 7:15 p.m. Friday night is an AJ Gator's Pre-Game Party.
