The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights announced today that the Calgary Flames, their National Hockey League affiliate, recalled left wing Eric Godard yesterday. The announcement was made by Flames' General Manager Darryl Sutter.
Godard has played in three games with the Flames, earning seven penalty minutes. In 35 games with the Knights, he has five goals and four assists for eight points. Two of his goals have been game winners. He ranks third on the team with 87 penalty minutes. He is coming off a team record-tying four-point night (two goals, two assists) at Milwaukee on January 4th. The native of Vernon, British Columbia played all of the 2005-06 season with the New York Islanders, tallying two goals and two assists for four points in 57 games. He also had 115 penalty minutes. It was his third NHL stint, all with the Islanders. In 107 career NHL games, he has five points and 260 penalty minutes. Prior to coming to Omaha, Godard played four full seasons in the AHL with Bridgeport and Louisville. Following more than two seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the WHL, Godard was signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers on September 24, 1999. He was later traded to the Islanders on June 22, 2002 in exchange for a third round pick in 2002.
