Providence Bruins News Release
Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 3-1 Friday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got a goal from Mikko Lehtonen and two goals from Wacey Rabbit. The P-Bruins are back in action on Wednesday at the Allstate Arena versus the Chicago Wolves at 8:00 p.m.
The Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 8:10 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Johnny Boychuk took a shot from the right point and the puck went off the stick of Matt Marquardt, who was parked in front of the net. He tipped the puck to Lehtonen who was wide open to the left side of the crease and with Worcester goaltender Thomas Greiss on the opposite side of the net Lehtonen had an open net to work with and scored his second goal of the season. Providence opened up a 2-0 advantage at the 13:31 mark. Matt Lashoff created a turnover in his own end and passed the puck to Jordan Knackstedt at center ice. Knackstedt broke through the Sharks defensemen and put a shot on net where the rebound went right to Rabbit. He backhanded the puck over the shoulder of Greiss and into the net for his second goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission leading 2-0.
In the second period the Sharks scored while on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity. Derek Joslin scored on a slap shot from the top of the right face off circle with Ryan Vesce and Mike Morris recording the assists.
In the third period, the P-Bruins scored the lone goal at the 17:25 mark to seal the victory. While shorthanded, Martins Karsums stole the puck creating a breakaway for him and Rabbit. Karsums waited for Greiss to commit to the right post than passed the puck to Rabbit on the left side as he scored his third goal of the season. The P-Bruins went on to the 3-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 33 of 34 shots for the P-Bruins, while Greiss made nine saves for the Sharks. Â The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins continue their six game road trip Wednesday against the Wolves at the Allstate Arena at 8:00 p.m. The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday, November 7 versus the Wolves for Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins tickets can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
