Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME - Pirates forward Tyler Bouck scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center in front of 5,243 fans.

The Sound Tigers opened up the scoring at the 1:18 mark of the first period with a goal by right wing Tim Jackman. Jackman gained possession of the puck after a giveaway by Portland defenseman Paul Baier at the hash marks in the defensive zone and slipped one past starting goaltender Adam Dennis. The goal was unassisted.

Andrew MacDonald added power play goal at the 13:52 mark in the first, after Pirates defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani was called for a holding penalty. Assisted by Kurtis McLean and Brett Skinner on the play, MacDonald fired a slap shot from the right point inside the right post behind Dennis.

The Pirates added their own power play goal at the 2:58 mark in the second period as Nathan Gerbe's shot from the top of the circle made its way past Bridgeport netminder Yann Danis. It was Gerbe's third goal on the season and assisted by Tim Kennedy and Tyler Bouck.

Bouck received a high-sticking minor 13 seconds later and the Sound Tigers capitalized with a power play goal by Mike Iggulden to regain a two-goal lead. Iggulden was assisted by Skinner and Trevor Smith.

Pirates defenseman Chris Butler scored the first goal of his professional career at the 5:54 mark of the second to cut Bridgeport's lead in half for the second time of the night. Butler scored on a snapshot over the shoulder of Danis, assisted by Derek Whitmore and Dylan Hunter.

The Pirates tied the game in the third period as Mark Mancari tallied his fourth goal of the season, from Mathieu Darche and Marc-Andre Gragnani at the 3:16 mark. Portland got their first lead of the night on a goal from Tyler Bouck at the 17:09 mark in the third period. Dylan Hunter chipped the puck out of his defensive end, and Tyler Bouck edged out Sound Tigers defensemen Andrew MacDonald in the race for the lose puck. With MacDonald leaning on him, Bouck fired a backhander under the crossbar on the short side for the game winner. It was the captain's third goal of the season.

Bridgeport goaltender Yann Danis made 20 saves in the loss and Portland netminder Adam Dennis turned aside 33 shots in his third win of the season.

Notes: Tonight marked the first time the Pirates have not scored first this season. Tim Kennedy extended his points streak to five games with an assist.
