October 24, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rochester Americans News Release
Tonight, the Rochester Americans host the Quad City Flames at The Blue Cross Arena in search of their first win of the 2008-09 American Hockey League season. The 7:35 p.m. contest is the only visit of the season from the Flames and is being broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and AHL Live.
Promotions: The game falls on Scout Night. All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with their families and friends can purchase discounted tickets for $10.00 - $12.00, depending on seating arrangements. There will also be a parade on the ice for all scouts during the first intermission. It's also AAA Discount Night. All AAA members who present their cards to The Blue Cross Arena Box Office can receive 100-End Seating for $12.00 each (Reg. Price $18.25) or 200-End Seating for $9.00 each (Reg. Price $14.25).
Head to Head: Tonight's contest is the first of two matchups between the non-divisional teams this season. Rochester will look to even the all-time series with Quad City after being burned by the Flames in the only two meetings between the two teams last season. The Amerks are 0-2-0-0 all-time against the Calgary Flames' affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (0-5-0-0) returns home after suffering back-to-back road losses as part of a two-game set with the Manitoba Moose at the MTS Centre. Rochester's offense is currently paced by rookie defenseman Jason Garrison with three points (1+2) through the first five games of the season. Second-year forward Tanner Glass is the Amerks' top goal-scorer thus far with a pair tallies. Chris Beckford-Tseu has spent the majority of time between the pipes for Rochester, posting a 3.79 goals-against average in four games.
Welcome Aboard: Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced Thursday that the team has recalled forwards Riley Emmerson and Jacob Micflikier from the Florida Everblades. The 6-foot-8, 248-pound Emmerson, whose rights belong to the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League, arrives in Rochester after appearing in one game with the Florida Everblades (ECHL) to start the 2008-09 season. Micflikier receives his first promotion of the season to the AHL after a brief two-game stint with the Florida Everblades to start the season. Micflikier is currently tied for second on the team in points after collecting a pair of assists to help the Everblades to a 1-1-0 record to kickoff the ECHL season. Prior to his reassignment to Florida, Micflikier appeared in all three preseason games with the Amerks, recording a goal on October 2nd against the Syracuse Crunch.
Quad City Notes: Quad City (1-3-1-0) enters the contest currently riding a three-game losing streak, with the most recent coming in a 4-1 decision to the Iowa Chops on October 18th at Wells Fargo Arena. The loss was the Flames' fourth in their last five games. Leading the way for Quad City this season is forward Kris Chucko with four points (3+1) in five games. Forward Adam Cracknell and defenseman Ryan Wilson share a second-place tie for the team lead with one goal and two assists, respectively. Goaltender Matt Keetley has started the season 1-3-0 and is presently ranked 12th among league netminders with a 2.22 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in four appearances.
Next Game: Rochester will travel to the War Memorial at Oncenter for a North Division matchup with the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday, October 25th. The contest is slated for a 7:30 p.m. start and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and whtk.com.
Next Home Game: The Amerks return home on Friday, October 31st for a Halloween night matchup with the Toronto Marlies at The Blue Cross Arena. Children ages 12 and under, wearing Halloween costumes, will get a free ticket to the game and are welcome to go trick or treating on the suite level during "Sweets in the Suites" in the first intermission. There will be a costume contest that night for kids and adults of the game as well. The first 5,000 fans will receive an Amerks magnet schedule, courtesy of M&T Bank.
