Crunch Power Past Binghamton in Overtime

Syracuse, NY (October 24, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch battled back from two two-goal deficits on the strength of three power play goals to push past Binghamton and improve to 4-1-0-0 at the War Memorial at Oncenter tonight.

Things got chippy early as two fights broke out within the first 20 seconds of the game with both Jon Mirasty and Tom Sestito each getting into it. But, it was Binghamton who scored first when Ilya Zubov lifted one over the left shoulder of starting goalie Dan LaCosta at 2:08 in the first period.

Binghamton built its lead to 2-0 at 6:31 in the first when an odd bounce off of the boards was left for Alexander Nikulin to sneak by the skates of LaCosta.

Syracuse got on the board with a four-on-three power play goal which was banged home by Craig MacDonald off of a rebound shot from the top of the left circle by Mike York at 14:43 of the first period.

Binghamton re-gained a two-tally lead when Ryan Shannon deflected a point shot that breezed through traffic and past LaCosta with under two minutes remaining in the period.

The Crunch fired back in the second period with its second power play goal when Adam Pineault buried a loose puck into the back of the net past Binghamton starter Brian Elliot at 4:52.

Syracuse evened the score just over two minutes into the third period on yet another power play goal when Clay Wilson received a centering feed from MacDonald and zipped it high by the blocker of Elliot into the net.

The Crunch ended the game with just 55 seconds left in overtime when Jonathan Sigalet's shot bounced off an opposing player in front and past Elliott. The Crunch won their second game of the season against BinghamtThe Syracuse Crunch's record breaking 18-game regular season win streak was snapped Saturday night losing 7-1 to the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center. With the victory the Bears remain undefeated in five games this season.

CRUNCHABLES: Jonathan Sigalet's overtime-winner was his first as a member of the Crunch...Dan LaCosta moved into a tie for ninth place on the all-time Crunch win list tonight (18)...LaCosta also moved into a tie for tenth place on the Crunch all-time list for games played by a goaltender (38).
