
P-Bruins Defeat Falcons In Overtime 3-2

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 3-2 in overtime Monday afternoon at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Vladimir Sobotka, Jeff Hoggan and Sean Curry. The 28-5-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Friday at the MassMutual Center against the Falcons at 7:30 p.m. Providence remains 13 points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The P-Bruins scored first at the 10:12 mark of the opening period while on a 5-on-3 power play. Brett Skinner took a shot from the high slot and Jeff Deslauriers made the save. The rebound went right to Sobotka and he slapped the puck into the net. Martins Karsums recorded the second assist. Providence took a 2-0 lead at the 12:48 mark, while shorthanded. Hoggan stole the puck in his own zone and raced it down the left wing. Cutting towards the net he shot it into the upper left corner of the net over the shoulder of Deslauriers. For Hoggan it was his second shorthanded goal in as many games and the P-Bruins seventh shorthanded goal of the season. The P-Bruins went into the first intermission with a 2-0 advantage.
In the second period, Springfield scored the lone goal on a 5-on-3 power play. At the 9:16 mark, Marc Pouliot tallied his eighth goal of the season with Sebastien Bisaillon and Rob Schremp picking up the assists. Providence took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
In the third period the Flacons tied the game two with their second power play goal of the evening. At the 15:07 mark Schremp scored off a shot from just inside the blue line for his ninth goal of the season. T.J. Kemp and Pouliot had the assists.
In overtime, with a delayed penalty upcoming, Curry took a shot from the right face off circle and scored to give Providence the 3-2 victory. The goal came at the 1:44 mark and was Curry's eighth of the season. Sobotka and Pascal Pelletier grabbed the assists.
Tuukka Rask stopped 23 of 25 shots for the P-Bruins, while Deslauriers made 30 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 1-for-7 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for Family Games Friday, January 11 versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, January 13 versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
