Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, December 31)... The Rochester Americans will look to break out of their slump as they take to the road for the month of January. The team will play nine of 13 games away from the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena. On deck this week for the Amerks are the American Hockey League's North Division leading Toronto Marlies and a two-game set with another divisional rival, the Manitoba Moose. The Amerks head north of the border on Wednesday, January 2nd to face the AHL's second best team (based on winning percentage), the Toronto Marlies, at Ricoh Coliseum. The 7:30 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. The Marlies bring a 22-6-0-4 record into the week. Their 85 goals allowed is third best in the entire AHL and second best in the Western Conference. Rochester is 0-4-0 this season and 9-12-0-1 all-time against Toronto.

After a travel day on Thursday, the Amerks will land in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Friday, January 4th where they will tackle the Manitoba Moose in the first game of a two-game series at the MTS Centre. Game two of the series will be played at the MTS Centre on Saturday, January 5th. Both games will begin at 8:30 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks. The Moose are currently second in the North Division with a record of 17-12-2-1. Rochester is 0-4-0 this season and 14-18-0 all-time against Manitoba.

The Amerks are trying to stop the bleeding after losing 12 of their last 13 games. After handing the Hamilton Bulldogs a 4-1 thumping on Friday night, the Amerks suffered 3-0 and 4-0 shutouts to Lake Erie on Saturday and Syracuse on Sunday, respectively. Rochester's four-goal effort on Friday was the team's highest offensive output since it scored five goals in a November 16th 5-4 win over Rockford.

Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Florida Panthers have reassigned defenseman Martin Lojek to Rochester. In his first stint with the Panthers this season, the 22-year-old Lojek played one game to boost his National Hockey League experience to four games. Lojek was recalled by Florida on December 28th. The Brno, Czech Republic, native has three goals and two assists in 31 games for the Amerks this season.
