Sharks close out one-goal week with two points

Rewind the Tape:

12.27.07 - Worcester 3 - Lowell Devils 4 - OT- Tsongas Arena

The Sharks gained a point for the second time this season when trailing after two periods of play. Dennis Packard and Josh Prudden each recorded a goal and an assist. Tomas Plihal scored the other goal for the Sharks. Nikolas Bergfors scored the OT GWG just :20 seconds into the extra frame. Thomas Greiss made 23 saves in net for the Sharks.

12.29.07 - Worcester 2 - Manchester 3 -OT - DCU Center

The Sharks dropped their second straight game in overtime. Worcester had a 2-0 lead with under four minutes to go in the third period after recording goals from Josh Prudden and Lukas Kaspar. Gabe Gautier would score a natural hat trick, the third goal coming with just 41 seconds left in OT. Thomas Greiss made 42 saves in net for the Sharks.

12.30.07 - Worcester 3 - Lowell 4 - DCU Center

Worcester would drop their third straight one goal game, however, this one would end in regulation with a 4-3 Devils victory. Tom Cavanagh scored two goals and Mike Iggulden scored his team leading 15th goal of the season. The Sharks allowed three power play goals. Taylor Dakers made 27 saves in net for the Sharks.

Sharks in the Atlantic...

The Sharks (13-12-3-2) swim in 6th place with 31 points in the Atlantic Division, six points behind the Falcons for 4th place in the division. The Sharks have played an AHL low 30 games which is five less than Springfield. The Sharks trail the Providence Bruins by 25 points for the top spot in the Atlantic.

Sharks Bites:

* F Mike Iggulden is tops on the team with 15 goals, 16 assists, 31 points, and 77 shots.

* Tomas Plihal has nine points (4-5-9) and is +6 in eleven games played with the Sharks.

* The Sharks have recorded 23 fighting majors in 30 games this season.

* F Tom Cavanagh leads the Sharks with six power play goals this season.

* D Dan Spang recorded a season high five game point streak (1-5-6) 12/18-12/29.

* F Josh Prudden has a three game point streak (2-2-4) 12/27- current.

Roster Moves:

The San Jose Sharks reassigned Devin Setoguchi to Worcester on Friday, December 28th. Setoguchi was recalled from Worcester on Oct. 28 and made his NHL debut on Oct. 29 at Dallas, scoring two goals. In 24 games with San Jose, Setoguchi posted ten points (eight goals, two assists). The six-foot, 205-pound native of Taber, Alberta was originally selected by San Jose in the first round (8th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

*Worcester to host the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic!

American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced that the Worcester Sharks and the city of Worcester have been awarded the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic. The event will take place at the DCU Center in January, 2009. The 2009 event in Worcester will mark the fourth time since it was revived in 1995 that the AHL All-Star Classic will take place in New England. The AHL All-Star Game was last held in Massachusetts in 1959 at the Eastern States Coliseum in West Springfield.

Coming Up:

The Sharks travel to Manchester on Monday, December 31st for a 6:05p.m. New Years Eve start against the Monarchs. Worcester returns home to start a three game home stand with a Wednesday night tilt vs. the Hershey Bears at 7:05p.m. The Sharks host the Monarchs on Friday, January 4th on "Beat the Radio Guy in Karaoke Night," and then host the Providence Bruins on Saturday, January 5th at 7:05p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Sharks team photo and the entire team will be available after the game for an autograph session in the Charter Zone!
