
P-Bruins Defeat Falcons 3-1

Springfield, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Springfield Falcons 3-1 Saturday evening at the MassMutual Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Vladimir Sobotka, Johnny Boychuk and Brad Marchand. The first place P-Bruins are back at home at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday, January 30 versus the Portland Pirates at 7:05 p.m. for Rhode Island Lottery Hat Night.
After a scoreless opening period, the P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 11:35 mark of the second period. Martin St. Pierre sent the puck in front of the net where Jordan Knackstedt tipped it to Sobotka. He was parked on the left post and scored his 12th goal of the season. Providence went ahead 2-0 while on the power play at the 13:55 mark. Sobotka had the puck in the corner and gave it to St. Pierre who was waiting behind the net. He passed it to Boychuk at the right point who put a shot on goal, which found its way through the legs of Falcons net minder Devan Dubnyk and into the net. For Boychuk, it was his tenth goal of the season. The P-Bruins took a 2-0 advantage into the second intermission.
With their goaltender pulled, the Falcons came within a goal at the 18:39 mark of the third period. Ryan Potulny tallied his 19th goal of the season, with Mathieu Roy and Ryan Stone recording the assists. The P-Bruins finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 19:51 mark. Adam McQuaid sent the puck along the right boards to Marchand in the neutral zone and he fired the puck into the empty net for his ninth goal of the season. Providence went on to the 3-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 18 of 19 shots he faced for the P-Bruins, while Dubnyk made 35 saves for the Falcons. The P-Bruins were 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins return home to The Dunk Friday versus the Pirates for Rhode Island Lottery Hat Night at 7:05 p.m. Providence is on the road Saturday at the Tsongas Arena against the Lowell Devils at 7:00 p.m. The P-Bruins finish off the weekend at home at The Dunk Sunday versus the Worcester Sharks at 2:05 p.m. for Martins Karsums Poster Night.
