Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

Idaho Falls, ID - Holding an early lead for the first time on the homestand, the Chukars were in the catbird seat going into the sixth inning. Orem took the lead in the sixth, but Idaho Falls tied the game in the seventh on a Rhett Aplin RBI single. The Owlz retook the lead in the eighth, and then added on three key insurance runs in the ninth, downing the Chukars 6-2. Idaho Falls has lost five in a row and 11 of their last 12 games.

The Chukars were able to set the tone early on the offensive side, as with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Wyatt Mascarella went opposite field for his first career homer, giving the Chukars the early 1-0 lead.

Chukars starter Nathan Webb was dominant, as he went five shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out ten. Webb found himself in jams in the second and fourth innings, but got out of both of them. His ten strikeouts tied his career high, which he set in his season debut in Billings.

Webb was in line for the win, but the Chukars lost the lead in the top of the sixth. Adrian Rondon started the inning with a double, followed but by an infield single from David Clawson. Brandon White walked to load the bases, and Jeans Flores singled home Rondon to tie the game. The next batter, Kevin Arias, hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Clawson to give Orem a 2-1 lead.

The Chukars tied the game in the seventh, as a Brady McConnell leadoff walk reached second on a wild pitch. Aplin then bounced a ball into center, scoring McConnell to tie that game. Aplin got to second on a wild pitch, but Owlz reliever Shane Kelso got the next three to end the inning.

Orem though took the lead back in the top of the eighth inning on three straight singles. Down one run, the Chukars got the first two on via the walk in the eighth inning, and Jose Marquez singled to load the bases with one out. McConnell though struck out, and Aplin smashed a ball to the right side of the infield that second baseman Jose Quezada fielded and threw to first for the third out of the inning

The Owlz added on three runs in the ninth, as Arias tripled with the bases loaded and two out. Idaho Falls went down in order in the bottom of the ninth, sending them to their fifth straight loss.

Idaho Falls looks to break out of their funk tomorrow as Grant Gambrell takes the hill. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM, and you can get your tickets by visiting ifchukars.com.
