
Otters Sweep Doubleheader from the Freedom

Florence, KY-The Evansville Otters swept a day/night doubleheader from the Florence Freedom on Sunday with victories of 6-5 and 3-1. The Otters improved to an impressive 8-2 in doubleheader's this year. With the two losses the Freedom are now 35-32, as they had their four game winning streak snapped after dropping the day portion of the doubleheader.
In game one, the Otters broke a 2-2 tie in the 5th, with a four run fifth inning to take a 6-2 lead. The Freedom clawed their way back though as Junior Arrojo scored on a throwing error by shortstop Luis Parache in the 5th to cut the lead to 6-3. In the 7th, Jim Jacquot drove in Arrojo with an RBI single to make it 6-4. Later in the inning, Drew Rundle singled into center field scoring pinch runner Edwin Padua to bring the Freedom within a run of 6-5. With the tying and winning runs on the bases, Victor Gomez flew out to left field to end the game. Arrojo went 3-4, including a solo homer in the 1st which tied the game at 1-1. Gomez also produced an RBI double in the 4th which tied the game at 2-2. Brent Choban was dealt his first professional loss. Choban, went 4.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs in the defeat.
Game two was a pitcher's duel between the Otters Adam Champion and the Freedom's Andres Caceres. With the game scoreless going into the top of the 7th, Brett Chamberlain drove the first pitch he saw from Caceres over the left field wall to give the Otters a 1-0 lead. Two batters later Luis Uribe homered to left which forced Caceres out of the game. Caceres took the tough loss as he went 6.1 innings allowing 6 hits on 2 earned runs while striking out 4. The Otters weren't done playing long ball in the 7th though, as Luis Parache homered off Brennan Flick to give Evansville a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 7th with one out, Champion surrendered his only hit of the night, as Stephen Cardullo hit a solo homer into the Otters bullpen to give the Freedom their only run and hit of the night. It was Cardullo's first homerun since joining the Freedom. Champion capped off the complete game victory by striking out pinch hitter Victor Gomez and getting Ryan Skellie to fly out to left field. Champion raised his record to 4-4 as Caceres fell to 6-3.
The Freedom will now have Monday off before resuming their season long twelve game homestand with the first of three against the Schaumburg Boomers Tuesday night. Schaumburg will feature RHP Alex Rivers(2-1, 4.50) as Alec Lewis(3-6, 4.74) will toe the rubber for the Freedom.
