Gateway Grizzlies News Release
MARION, IL - Southern Illinois outfielder Darian Sandford was doubled off second base after a lineout to first base by Jake Kaase in the 12th inning to finish off a Grizzlies 3-2 win Monday night at Rent One Park.
The game three win gave the Grizzlies their seventh straight series win. Gateway has now won 11 of 14.
Gateway (38-28) scored on a run in the first inning to take the first lead in the low-scoring affair. Rogelio Noris had a sacrifice fly to bring in Jonathan Johnson, who led off the game with a single.
Southern Illinois (38-28) also got on the board in the first inning, tying the game on a Cody Harrilchak RBI double.
After the Miners took a fifth inning lead, the Grizzlies rallied in the eight to tie the game at two. Noris hit a single and Chris McClendon drove him in from first base on an RBI double.
The scoring stayed the same until the 12th inning when the Grizzlies put together a rally without any hits. Antone DeJesus led off with a walk, Justin Dunning picked up a sac bunt, Jonathan Johnson walked, Richie Jimenez Jr. was hit by a pitch and Jerod Yakubik brought home the game-leading run on an RBI walk.
Tim Brown got the start for Gateway and put together another outstanding start. The right-hander from St. Louis, MO got a no-decision despite going seven innings and giving up one earned run.
Gateway's bullpen pitched five scoreless innings. Richard Barrett and Phillip Reamy pitched two scoreless innings, with Reamy getting the win. Jordan Cudney worked the ninth inning for his third save of the season.
John Shelby was the only Grizzlie with more than one hit. He went 2-for-5 with two singles. Gateway went hitless from the eighth inning until the end of the game.
The Grizzlies come home for a nine-game homestand that starts Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (6-4) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
