Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - Scott Dunn tied a career high with seven shutout innings and Marcus Nidiffer drove in a pair of runs as the Traverse City Beach Bums toppled the Road Warriors 3-0 in a game shortened to eight innings due to rain.

The Beach Bums got on the board in the second inning when with two outs, Sean Gusrang rifled a ball into rightfield for a single. Nidiffer came up next and roped a double down the leftfield line to score Gusrang for a 1-0 lead. In the fifth, Ryan Still and Chase Burch walked to put runners on first and second with two out for Jeff Flagg who lined a ball into centerfield for a single to plate Still and put TC up 2-0.

Traverse City would cap the scoring in the bottom of the eighth when Nidiffer drove his fifth homer of the season out to left.

The runs were more than enough for Dunn (3-2) who was brilliant, matching his career-high going seven innings while also tying his personal best with six strikeouts. After allowing two first inning singles, the righthander went into shutdown mode, retiring 15 in a row before an infield hit by Tyler Hall in the sixth. Matt Miller worked a scoreless eighth inning for the Beach Bums before rain halted the proceedings. Shawn Marquardt (0-1) took the loss for the Road Warriors.

Traverse City now sees Windy City come to town for a three game set starting with Olympic Night on Tuesday. We will have Olympic themed onfield promotions all night!! The first 400 kids through the gate will even get a GOLD MEDAL!! It is also a Two-for-Tuesday with 2-for-1 pricing on all chairback seats. Jacob Clem (4-4, 2.82) will get the start for the Beach Bums against Blayne Weller (4-1, 3.82) for the ThunderBolts. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
