EVANSVILLE, IN - A night after a seven-run third inning sealed the Otters fate in an 8-4 loss, Evansville used a six run fifth inning to claim a 7-4 victory over Lake Erie Saturday evening at Bosse Field.

Entering the fifth already trailing 3-0, the Otters sent eleven men to the plate against three different Lake Erie pitchers. The Otters loaded the bases with one out for Kenny Gilbert, who singled into right field. Arden McWilliams overran the ball, and all three runners scored. Gilbert took second on the error and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Greg Alexander walked, former Crusher Luke Hetherington singled to right to drive Gilbert in. After Frank Meade walked and a wild pitch moved him and Hetherington to second and third, Travis McCleary singled to right to bring both home and give the Otters a 6-3 lead.

Evansville picked up another run in the sixth inning when Marcus Rose walked, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch. New closer Ben Paxton recorded a six out save, allowing only one hit in his two innings of relief.

Otters' starter Andrew Werner (3-1) earned the victory, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings while striking out six. The Crushers' Cristobal Mata, making a spot start, dropped to 2-6 after giving up four runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings. Shannon Sprouse had a rough evening in relief of Mata, allowing all four batters he faced in the fifth inning to reach base. He was charged with runs without recording an out.

The Otters wore alternate pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Bosse Field. The jerseys were auctioned off after the game with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The Otters (26-51) will look to take the rubber match of the series Sunday at 6:05pm CDT.
