Florence Y'alls News Release

LOVES PARK, IL - Every time the Florence Freedom scored a run the Rockford RiverHawks had an answer and Florence fell 7-5 Saturday night at Road Ranger Stadium.

Tim Grogan (10) homered in the first inning off Jose Meteo to put the Freedom up 1-0.

Rockford responded right back with three in the bottom of the first capped by Brandon Cohen's two-run homer off Everett Saul to make it 3-1.

Florence made it one run game with a run in the second and then took their final lead in the fourth with a two spot.

But back came the RiverHawks with back-to-back singles to start the bottom of the fourth. Matt Mazurek's RBI fielder's choice with the bases loaded scored the second run of the inning and Rockford took back a 5-4 lead.

Derrick Walker went 2-4 in the game for Rockford including his third home run of the season to lead off the sixth inning making it 6-4. Rockford added another run in the inning to take a 7-4 lead.

Ryan Basham's one out homer in the top of the ninth inning off Slava Vasilyev cut the lead to two. For Basham it was his 38th career home run as he is now the Freedom's all-time leader.

The homer was not enough as the RiverHawks snapped Florence's (36-40) three game winning streak. Saul (9-7) took the loss going five innings and allowing seven runs, six earned. It was the right-hander's 4th straight as he continues to pursue double digits in the win column.

Elliot Cribby (2-2) tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings for Rockford out of the pen for the win. Ferdin Tejeda picked up his first save.

The series wraps up Sunday afternoon at Road Ranger Stadium with the first pitch scheduled at 5:05 p.m. Eastern.
