TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored a 9-2 victory over the River City Rascals at Wuerfel Park on Saturday night as Brett Bostelman fired his first complete game of the season.
The Beach Bums opened a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Andrew Franco struck out swinging but was able to reach on a wild pitch from River City starter Eddie Degerman, who was making his Frontier League debut, and move to second on another wild pitch. Brian Lapin put the Beach Bums in front with a single through the right side on a 2-1 pitch. Robby Alcombrack doubled to put runners at second and third for Brandon McArthur, who lifted a sacrifice fly.
River City cut the lead in half with a run in the top of the third as JoJo Batten doubled home Scott Houin with one out. Degerman lasted just three innings for River City and in the fourth Brandon McArthur belted a two-run homer over the wall in left for his first as a professional to distance the advantage to 4-1 against reliever Pablo Lopez.
After an unearned run in the fifth inning driven in by Batten on a sacrifice fly, the Beach Bums connected on another homer against Lopez to stretch the lead to 7-2. Michael Campbell and John Alonso drew walks with one out before Andrew Franco parked an 0-1 offering over the fence in right-center for his third round-tripper of the year.
Two more runs crossed in the sixth with two outs as Brad Miller singled and Michael Campbell walked in front of John Alonso. Alonso doubled to right to drive in two and account for the final score.
Brett Bostelman went the distance for the Beach Bums, tossing 110 pitches for his second career complete game. He walked three and struck out four in netting his seventh win of the summer. Offensively, the Beach Bums finished with 10 hits in the game. Brad Miller posted three hits while Brian Lapin and Robby Alcombrack added two each.
Traverse City will conclude the series with River City and the homestand tomorrow night in a 5:05pm game. RHP David Nathanson (5-8, 4.02) will get the call for the Beach Bums with RHP Josh Lowey (6-2, 2.84) slated to start for the Rascals on a Family Night.
