Erie Otters News Release

Erie, PA - The Otters struggled to find the find the cage and were handed their first shut out of the season to the hands of the Sudbury Wolves 2-0 at Erie Insurance Arena Friday evening.

The Wolves entered with a season-high two game win streak and they would get on the board first. Recently acquired Mikkel Aagaard scored his sixth goal in ten games with his new team to put the Wolves ahead 1-0 less than five minutes into the game. The Otters had a couple of power play opportunities to tie the score up, but they were unable to convert and went into the first intermission trailing for just the eighth time this season.

The second period saw both teams unable to gain any kind of significant traction offensively. Troy Timpano was able to stop 18 Otters shots in the period. The score remained 1-0 entering the final period of play. This marked just the fourth time this season the Otters trailed after 40 minutes of play.

The final period was more of the same for Erie, as they generated a couple of good scoring chances but couldn't find the net. Devin Williams was pulled for an extra attacker with around two minutes remaining, but the empty cage was taken advantage of by Sudbury captain Danny Desrochers. His empty net goal was the nail in the coffin for the Otters, who were shut out for the first time this season 2-0.

The Otters will be back in action tomorrow hosting the Sarnia Sting at Erie Insurance Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
